In the course of my own studies into the early Christian Church, I noted that several modern theological authors had referenced this work. Written by a highly qualified author, it is a good standard text on the subject of Christian art and a very useful reference source.
A quite academic book, whereas my preference is for something more superficial. However for serious students of early Christian art, this would be an excellent reference because it is quite detailed. One shortcoming is lack of coloured photos- everything is black and white, and in fact there are relatively few photos in book given that it's a book about art.
