99% of the reviews that I write is to help readers find books and items that I think that would or would not enjoy. I am recommending "Make Your Point" for a more selfish goal. I have sat through way too many terrible presentations that would have greatly benefited from "Make Your Point". If everyone read "Make your Point" I would no longer be exposed to those long winded, rambling, and boring talks that seem to be the norm. "Make Your Point" is both an excellent reference and teaching guide. I think that college students would appreciate the concise approach to public speaking. Business profession will benefit with a refreshing course and the introduction of "The Diamond". "The Diamond" is an approach to clearly and concisely present your ideas wile being confident that your audience is hearing your main points and internalizes the message that you are trying to sned.Final Verdict - I have read many books on effective communication and I can say that "Make Your Point' is at the top of the list. I bought this because I'm at the point in my career where I'm an executive, but still need to dwell in the details a lot. This means I'm frequently "in the weeds" on the analysis side of things, but am also having to succinctly summarize the findings to the highest levels of the organization.Communicating the "high level" summary while including just the key, convincing details can be a tough challenge (for me at least). This book was extremely helpful.I've noticed the change in positive feedback from peers and those above since reading the book and employing the technique.

The MYP diamond is a great reference tool to help keep things concise. My director taught me a new word: succint! He said he didn't have the time or energy to pick out the important nuggest from my verbose emails. After reading this book and a few others, my communications have greatly increased their effectiveness!
The topic of the book is a great one; the contents however are useless. Had I known the authors were going to simply describe what most people already know about what it takes be a good speaker(have your ideas clear and organized, give examples and provide evidence of what you are talking about, tell people why they should listen to what you have to say, give a mind-blowing conclusion, etc.), I wouldn't have bought the book. I thought the book would contain more useable tips on "how to" be eloquent, as opposed to just describing the characteristics of eloquence. Seems to me that the book was only written as a bait to visit the authors' webpage and pay for other, hopefully more in-depth training courses.Supporting evidence: page 607 (kindle version) talks about how the authors' "real" work includes coaching and videotaping customer service reps to help them appear more friendly and capable (now, that's cool); page 614 says something like "are you the type of person that is boring and frightening? Try smiling; are you the type of person that is friendly but gets no respect? Try giving firm handshakes" (duh!). As an alternative to this book, I recommend Carnegie's "how to win friends and influence people".
I have read many books on the subject of public speaking...and this is by far the best!!!I say this in all honesty. I have taken many courses in public speaking. As my career expanded into sales management I needed to make many presentations and I wished I had this book sooner!!!!It is an easy to read and understand guide to the many aspects of speaking in public. However is goes beyond public speaking. It offers tips and ideas on organizing written proposals etc. etc. etc. I have already used some of the ideas to help secure a large order.The book is very well done and is a great investment for everyone entering into all aspects of sales and business.
