I think that one of the signs of a good restaurant cookbook is that it makes you want to have a meal there, to meet the people mentioned, and to taste the dishes in their native habitat. By this measure, The Founding Farmers Cookbook fails. After reading the book I have no interest in the place at all. Which is not to say that you will feel the same way, of course. If you haven't read many local food cookbooks you might find lots here to think about, but I have been in the local food movement since the beginning and this is old hat for me.This is a beginner's cookbook with comfortable food. There are far far too many quotes about food from the likes of Lyndon Johnson, Benjamin Franklin and "Elizabeth Robbins Pennell, pioneering American food writer".I received this advance review copy of The Founding Farmers Cookbook: 100 Recipes for True Food & Drink from the Restaurant Owned by American Family Farmers by Founding Farmers with Nevin Martell (Andrews McMeel Publishing) through NetGalley.com.
Recipes are difficult and not for the new chef. Taste just like what you get in the restaurant, but are long and involved and not for quick meals. Plan ahead if you want to cook from this book.
Enjoyed a delicious meal at Founding Farmers restaurant in Washington,DC. I purchased this cookbook for a friend for the mussel appetizer that she ordered at the restaurant and loved. Reviews on Amazon declared the Cookbook contained the menu items but unfortunately not the mussel appetizer with Chorizo. The cookbook was nicely illustrated and lots of great recipes. You won't regret purchasing.
I gave this book as a Christmas gift and was an instant hero upon presentation. It helps if you have visited a Founding Farmers restaurant (which we did) and enjoyed the food. The unique menu intrigued us and the flavorful dishes delighted our palates. We forgot to ask about the cook book on the way out, but I was pleased to find it online for less. Now the task of recreating the dishes begins.
its ok - bought it for the meatless meatloaf recipe and its not in the book.
Love this cookbook! Visited the restaurant in DC last month and had to recreate some of the mouth-watering dishes, including the moist and flavorful skillet cornbread.
This cookbook was everything I thought it would be! I have cooked several recipes since I got it and they tasted just like the real thing - at the restaurant. I highly recommend it.
After enjoying a delicious meal at the restaurant in Washington, D.C., I absolutely had to have the cookbook. The chicken pot pie and Yankee pot roast recipes are terrific.
Beautiful book (inside and out) lot's of delicious looking recipes (haven't tried any of them yet but if they're half as delicious as the food at the restaurant, I'm sure they'll be great). Cool Christmas gift for my chica.
