From Booklist

This book could easily be confused with the author’s 100 Scariest Things on the Planet (2011) and 100 Most Dangerous Things on the Planet (2008) as there is a fair amount of overlap in topical contents. Nonetheless, this series entry offers thrill seekers fresh cautionary notes on a batch of natural catastrophes and bad-news beasties. Pairing small color photos—some of which are gory or graphic—with bite-size remarks, Claybourne explains to readers why it would be good to avoid certain creatures, from the tsetse fly and deathstalker scorpion to an array of poisonous snakes and sea creatures, aggressive big cats, and killer plants. She also covers deadly diseases, from leprosy to the black death, and closes with the potentially world-altering events: eruptions, solar flares, and meteor “impact events.” Arranged in no particular order within broad chapters, the entries in this lurid, loudly colored browsing item each come with a danger rating, if not such niceties as source notes or leads to further information. Grades 4-7. --John Peters

Lots of color photos in this book. Creepy, not for the faint of heart. Great book for kids as young as 7 or 8, going all the way up to grown ups who like to fill their heads with random facts. Well written, and the snippets of information are just brief enough that you can get details without being overwhelmed. Has contributed to lots of conversations around our dinner table (we have strong stomachs). The companion books (Scariest, Most Disgusting etc.) are also similar quality.

I did not read this but my son love this book as much as other 100.......series books. My son gave up Youtube for this book! Awesome! These books bring the love to read back to my son.

Several of the pictures in this book are not accurate- the blue-ringed octopus has no blue rings! It feels as though this book was assembled by people who were more accustomed to photoshop than to science.

I bought this book for my nine year old and he loves it. He never gets tired of reading it either. He'll read it, forget about it for a few months, find it and read it again. He enjoys just as much as he did the first time he read it. He's not really that in to reading, so whatever it takes to get him to read.

My son has all of these books now. Wish they sold it in a set, would be easier to get. Either way he has them and he loves them. He is the kind of kid who loves facts. He will be a trivia expert in no time!

My son LOVES these books! He is 7 and loves everything like this, interesting animal and world facts. These books are full of things I didn't even know! I plan on buying most of the series for him! I also purchased the, 100 Most Awesome Things on the Planet and he can't get enough of them!

I got this as a Christmas gift for my 7 year old boy. He loves it! He is so intrigued by this kind of stuff and absorbs it like a little sponge. He likes reading this book to his younger cousins and they think it is so cool!

Grandson has read and re-read this book many times.
