About the Author

Kelly Cowan started teaching microbiology at Miami University in 1993. Her specialty is teaching microbiology for pre-nursing/allied health students at the university’s Middletown campus. After working as a dental hygienist, she earned her Ph.D. at the University of Louisville and later worked at the University of Maryland’s Center of Marine Biotechnology and the University of Groningen in The Netherlands. Kelly has published (with her students) 24 research articles stemming from her work on bacterial adhesion mechanisms and plant-derived antimicrobial compounds. But her first love is teaching―both doing it and studying how to do it better. She is past chair of the Undergraduate Education Committee of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM). Her current research focuses on the student achievement gap associated with economic disparities, as well as literacy in the science classroom. In her spare time, Kelly hikes, reads, and still tries to (s)mother her three grown kids.

DOES NOT COME WITH ACCESS CODEUSELESS FOR CLASS

This book was word for word exactly like the newer edition.I was concerned that I would miss something by getting an older edition,but I'm happy to say I passed this class with an A!!Who can afford a $168 @ the bookstore?I bought this one used for $2.11 used and never missed a beat.

Cowan's Microbiology-"A Systems Approach" aligns perfectly with nursing courses such as human pathophysiology, anatomy & physiology. Approach Microbiology in a systems approach makes it easier to learn and challenge any student like myself. Microbiology is very technical; however, this textbook is written for easy understanding of the microbe world. I would recommend Amazon for your store and this textbook for your education!

This was an okay microbiology textbook. It was not the best nor the worst written micro textbook I have used for class. I was happy with using it for the class I had to have it for because this edition filled in nicely for the newer edition. There may be even newer editions out now. Pretty typical microbiology textbook.

This book did NOT include the Connect access code. I paid extra for that reason and it was not included.

Really poor condition. Seems cracked and open. Ripped and folded pages. Don't mind the highlighter but lots of scribbling in the book. Not pleased.
