NYLO in Warwick.
You should get your arse down to the wacky city of Warwick to dine at NYLO. It's a hotel with a restaurant called the Loft. It is clean and serene with a lot of blonde wood. The nautical-themed decor consists of fabrics in navy and white, silver metal accents along with seashells here and there. At the far mirrored wall, there is lovely white pool table with navy felt. Just dazzling. The outdoor deck looks intriguing, but I'm not sure if dinner is served out there. Outside, the deck overlooks water of some sort.
Food is pretty good. Nothing too fancy, but I found it to be flavorful. The drinks are la bomba, definitely worth getting a few. I highly recommend ordering some of the the top shelf liquids, though.
Making a reservation is recommended since you cannot be sure whether or not mass quantities of Warwackians, Cranstonites, or other Rhode Islanders will be heading over there.
The waitstaff is perky and pleasant. Parking is fairly simple. Two choices: Drive into the parking lot or valet.
I give NYLO a hearty 4/5 rating. The food isn't what'll lure me back, instead 'tis the intrigue of the back deck and a smooth martini. Yowza.

Aye Dios Mio
Should I do this in Spanish? Debo hacerlo en espanol? Eh? No.
What's been happening? Top 10.
1. WaterFire has its first full-fledged event Saturday, May 23. Come one, come all. Buy one of those awesome glowy necklaces because they're fun and you haven't purchased one in years.
2. Guys sporting scarves just so they can look like a "rock star." Guess what, you can suck it as far as I'm concerned. I'm the one wearing the scarf, douchebag, not you.
3. I've got a slew of new places to try in the city and beyond.
4. Facebook is one of the lamest things on earth. Right up there with the new Honda Insight and the idea that our presidente wants cars to average 39 mpg by 2016. Um, no thanks. I'm down with my future Cadillac averaging a swift 25 mpg. Thirty-nine mpg! You're condemning me to a life of angry driving. Again, no gracias.
5. Beach traffic. Get ready, people.
6. Bad teeth. I've always been semi-dentally obsessed. Brush and floss, y'all. Maybe consider some teeth whitening? Crest Strips are so easy to use.
7. Martinis. Such a vast array of combinations, so little time.
8. The power of a well-placed adverb really spices up a conversation or a written document.
9. Paper towels and toilet paper. They are in short supply at work. This disturbs me tremendously.
10. Last, the Bachelorette is back. She's Canadian. I love her wacky verbiage. Although, she does need some new exclamations. There are only so many times anyone can use the word "cool" when conversing.
Yup yup, it's been a while. I'm not really back, per se, just around the way.
XO,
Azucar
P. S. Anyone catch that LL ref?

Happy Easter all.
Go to Nice Slice on Thayer Street for pizza. So many varieties, including veggie ones. DE-licious! The crust is thin on all the pizzas I saw in the display case.
Secondly, Antonios Pizza on Thayer is also yummy. Thicker crust, more hearty pizza offerings.
Lastly, the RI license plate AZUCAR is out and on the mean streets of Providence. I saw it on a white Explorer parked on Chalkstone Ave. My dreams are shattered. What's a girl to do?
Happy marshmallow bunnies and chocolate treats today, people.

Tini, oh so tini
Tini's in downtown Providence is yet another a must-try eatery. Hidden away on Washington Street next to Gracie's is this tiny little restaurant named Tini's.
A friend and I attempted to visit Tini's a few weeks ago to no avail. Parking is such a bitch in that area. We did find parking this Friday, though. Through some fancy maneuvering I managed to parallel park on Washington in two swift movements after seeing a space on the opposite side of the street. Hi yah.
Tapas. Tapas everywhere. The menu is displayed on a HD flat panel TV. It rotates through each screen every 45 seconds or so. The seating is super limited so either get there early by making a reservation (only b/w 5 and 6 pm) or wait patiently on the little benches inside (seats like 5). The entire restaurant fits about 20 regular sized humans. Drinks were printed on a little menu.
Once seated, you'll notice the dishes and glasses are all so petite.
To start, compliments from the chef (no matter what it ends up being, it's always a nice treat) was a little something yummy. For our tapas, we enjoyed the endive caesar salad with crispy (not hard and stale) garlic croutons, an A-mazing order of mussels with chorizo, garlic mayo and hot sauce fries, and a lime custard cup for dessert. The flavors of the foods packed a punch. OOOH, everything was so good. I'd order the mussels again or maybe have two orders, I loved them so much. Even the drinks were smooth and delicious. I have to say, I quite enjoyed the small drinks. I savored each sip on account of the size. Oversized martinis are definitely unnessary (for me, anyway).
The staff was pleasant and attentive. We loved the style of both people behind the bar and their cool demeanor.
Azucar's Friday Night Rating of Tini's: 5/5.
Insider tip: Valet parking may be available soon...

Where have you been?
Oh my. What's new on the scene, you ask? So many things. First, I'm giving up the license plate thing (again). I've become overly obsessed. Must let go of trying to record every clever one I see.
Place you need to go for fun: Cafe Noir. Great food, drinks and service, awesome atmosphere, interesting crowd. It's already been reviewed here, but I can't say enough about it.
Drag Brunch at Downcity (50 Weybosett) to benefit AIDS Project RI on 3/15/09. You must make reservations to attend. I'm no drag queen, for obvious reasons, but am in love with false eyelashes. Now, if only I can get them close enough to the lash line....I'd wear them out.
Here's an interesting diddy. How is it that when I roll into a few places in the fine city of Providence, I run into the same shady lady I shall call MJ? She chatted with a friend and I one time in January. I haven't and won't engage her in conversation because I really don't dig her. What gets me is that she and I go to the same Saturday/Friday night haunts. I don't go to these places often, but it seems she's almost always at one of them during one part of the night. It's very odd. Another peculiar aspect to MJ is that she is often seen out with a good-looking local newscaster. So nuts!!!
The Smurfs are still on TV!
Guys with scarfs should not be underestimated.
The non-sleaze environment of the Pelham in Newport is an interesting Saturday night hang out spot if you like live music. Go now, beat the annoying summer crowd.
Reconnecting with old friends. What a whirlwind 2009 has been in terms of the social networking scene. Came across old friends from high school and met some new friends, recently. Then, there's that one former friend I don't know what to do about. Sometimes it's relatively painless to reconnect with a friend you lost touch with, but one with whom there was drama ain't so easy. Some "friends" you're happy to write out of your life, though, but others...not so much.
St. Patrick's Day = 3/17
St. Joseph's Day = 3/19
It's snoodles more interesting to enjoy a delicious zeppola than some rancid green beer. Best zeppole in RI are at Zaccagnini's Bakery, particularly the one on Smithfield Ave in Pawtucket.
